You think that by making things unnecessarily complicated you will trick us all into thinking you are fascinating and sophisticated, but you are wrong. There's a term for that type of behavior - it's called doublespeak, and William Lutz wrote a whole book on the subject.
Everywhere else in the body random patches of lymph tissue are sensibly called BALT, MALT or GALT, but in the ilium you've got to call it Peyer's Patches. And Peyer's Patches aren't covered in epithelium like all the organ systems who aren't really fucking boring...no, no, instead they are covered by M cells. Other systems with actual self-esteem don't feel the need to call themselves fancy names in order to feel better about themselves, they just do their job and let their inner light shine through, and don't feel the need to name their children Moon Ray Stallion. Everywhere else has mucous glands, but the duodenum has to have Brunner's Glands. It's like Brunner was sitting in his lab late one Saturday night, and it occurred to him how sad it was that he'd spent his life studying something so fundamentally boring. In a desperate ploy for redemption he said "I know! I'll call this rather pedestrian mucous cell after myself." News for you GI: as a former child nerd, I can assure you that nobody likes it when you use unnecessarily big words for SIMPLE CONCEPTS.
And let's not even get into the fact that while people seem to have studied the minutia of the inner workings of the colon, quite literally, nobody yet has a reasonable grasp on how taste actually works. I mean, really...what type of a person looks at the full expanse of medicine, narrows in on GI, and then fucking decides to head straight to the feces. All I want to know is why olive oil on my salad makes the balsamic more tasty. HMM?!
Let's just tell the truth. You've basically got 4 layers from start to finish...and not very interesting layers at that. Mucosa, submucosa, muscularis externa, and serosa. You basically repeated yourself a couple of times and threw on something at the end to make things look spicy. I'm not buying what you're selling. Your hormone system is mildly interesting, but even there you manage to fuck it up. G cells secrete gastrin, S cells secrete secretin (duh)...yay, I'm with you, I'm focusing on what you do, go on! I cells secrete...cholesytokinin. Naturally. And d cells? Somatostatin. Of course.
